New Delhi, Apr 20 (IBNS): The Central board of Secondary Education (CBSE) asked all its affiliated schools to stop selling books as well as uniform, school bags inside school premises in a circular issued on Thursday, according to media reports.

The central board said that the schools are not the commercial establishments and selling books or any item would violate the law.

The decision has been taken following the complaints received from various parents about the compulsion of buying study related materials from the respective schools.

"CBSE norms mandate that schools are run as community service and not as a business and that commercialisation does not take place in the school in any shape whatsoever. Educational institutional are not commercial establishments and their sole purpose is to provide quality education," the circular sent to the schools reads.
