CID at BJP MP Roopa Ganguly's residence in connection with child trafficking case

Kolkata, Jul 29 (IBNS) : Officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday reached BJP MP Roopa Ganguly's house to question her in connection with an alleged child-trafficking case in Jalpaiguri district, reports said.

Last week, the CID had summoned Ganguly and BJP national general secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya.

According to reports, A CID inspector and two women officials reached the BJP leader's Golfgreen residence in south Kolkata.
Ganguly and Vijayvargiya were given notice to appear before the CID office respectively on July 27 and 29. Though Vijayavargiya has already obtained bail from a court Ganguly has not taken any pre-emptive measure.

In May, the CID filed its first chargesheet in a Jalpaiguri court against seven people, including suspended BJP youth leader Juhi Chowdhury, in connection with the child trafficking racket it had busted in February.

Chowdhury, who was the general secretary of BJP’s Jalpaiguri Mahila Morcha, had been accused of helping the traffickers using her “political influence”. Her father, Rabindra Narayan Chowdhury, was a BJP state committee leader and a party district unit chief. Both were removed by BJP after their name cropped up in the case.

The names of Vijayvargiya and Ganguly had come up during investigation.
