Class 10 Madrasa Dropout Behind AI Video Targeting Delhi Cop Accused by Women Journalist? Police Arrest Haryana Youth
New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested a 24-year-old man from Haryana for allegedly creating and circulating an AI-generated video and poster that falsely showed a senior police officer sexually assaulting a woman journalist, adding a disputed layer to an already contentious row over policing a protest at Jantar Mantar.
The accused, Nadeem Ahmed Ameen of Palwal, was arrested on Monday, produced before a Delhi court and remanded to police custody, according to reports citing police.
A case has been registered at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi district under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Reports cite rioting and forgery among the invoked sections.
What police say
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjeet Sheoran said the accused used AI tools to generate footage, presented as CCTV, showing Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat misbehaving with a woman journalist.
Police said a technical test confirmed the video was AI-generated. Police have not publicly detailed how that determination was made, and the claim has not been independently verified.
Police said the video was first posted on October 3 and circulated on October 4 through an Instagram news-style page that Ameen ran, which was created in April and has about 24,000 followers.
According to Delhi police, Ameen told investigators he had AI tools and used them to "malign the image of Delhi Police" and create unrest.
Police recovered several AI-related tools and a phone with the account logged in. Investigators are examining whether others were involved, how he was funded, and whether the effort was pre-planned, officials said.

Some outlets reported that police are also looking at possible links to the Cockroach Janta Party, whose supporters were among those at the protest; that line of inquiry rests on police statements and has not been confirmed.
Ameen is described in reports as a Class 10 dropout who studied at a madrasa in Saket and presented himself as an independent journalist.
The underlying complaints
The video surfaced amid separate allegations that are still unresolved.
Three women journalists alleged they were sexually harassed by police personnel while covering a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 3 against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
One journalist alleged that Bhagat groped and pushed her after she raised concerns about a woman protest leader being detained without women officers present, The Print reported.
Delhi Police acknowledged the allegations in a post on X on October 3 and said the complaints had been transferred to the Crime Branch for what they called a fair and impartial inquiry.
No FIR had been registered against any officer as of the latest reports. The Hindu, as cited by The Wire, quoted a New Delhi police official as saying no case had been registered because there was no evidence to substantiate the allegation.
The Print noted that, aside from the footage police say was AI-generated, no proof of the alleged incident has emerged publicly, Bhagat has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing, and the allegations against him are unproven.
Opposition leaders criticised the police response. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi faulted the absence of an FIR and said women were "dragged" during the protest, while Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said those meant to provide security were making women feel threatened, according to The Wire.
