Court orders framing of charges against Naveen Jindal, Madhu Koda and others in coal scam case

New Delhi, Apr 29 (IBNS) A special court on Friday said that charges can be framed against the former minister of state for coal Dasari Narayan Rao, industrialist Naveen Jindal and 13 others for criminal conspiracy, cheating and other offences for the scam involving allocation of Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block (Jharkhand) to Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) and Gagan Sponge Iron Private Ltd (GSIPL) in 2008, according to media reports.

New Delhi, Apr 29 (IBNS) A special court on Friday said that charges can be framed against the former minister of state for coal Dasari Narayan Rao, industrialist Naveen Jindal and 13 others for criminal conspiracy, cheating and other offences for the scam involving allocation of Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block (Jharkhand) to Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) and Gagan Sponge Iron Private Ltd (GSIPL) in 2008, according to media reports. 
 

According to reports, the court also ordered ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, former Coal Secretary H C Gupta and 11 others, to be put on trial. They were chargesheeted by CBI in the case following allegations of irregularities in allocating the coal block .
 
Four Delhi-based and one Hyderabad-based company have been accused in the case -- Jindal Steel and Power Ltd., Gagan Sponge Iron Pvt. Ltd., Jindal Reality Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi Exim Pvt. Ltd. and Sowbhagya Media Ltd.
 
Meanwhile, according to media reports, the court issued notice to CBI and  the accused after Suresh Singhal filed an application on April 21 for pardon and turning approver in the case.
 
Singhal's statement was recorded by a magistrate and placed before the special judge in a sealed envelope.
 
The court has fixed May 11 as the date  for hearing of submission from CBI and the accused on Singhal's plea after which formal framing of charges against the accused will take place.
