Delhi: Protest against new citizenship law turns violent in Seelampur, police fire tear gas
New Delhi/IBNS: The police resorted to lathicharge and even lobbed tear gas shells as a protest against the new citizenship law turned violent in New Delhi's Seelampur area on Tuesday.
The fresh violence occurred just days after Delhi witnessed clashes between Jamia Millia Islamia University students and the police during a an agitation against the law on Sunday.
Meanwhile, more than 1,000 people gathered outside the DCP office in North-East Delhi's Seelampur protesting against the CAA, with the police resorting to lathi-charge and tear gas, reported UNI.

Entry & exit gates of Seelampur and Gokulpuri are closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations.
The protesters were shouting slogans -- 'Hindu-Muslim Zindabad' and 'Jamia tum sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain'.
The protesters reportedly damaged buses and several other vehicles in the area.
The agitators were seen pelting stones at police personnel.
Vandalisation of property has also been reported.
Entry and exit gates at seven metro stations, including Seelampur and Gokulpuri, were closed by the DMRC on Tuesday in the wake of protests being held here against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Traffic movement has been closed on 66 feet road from Seelampur to Jafrabad (both carriageways) due to demonstration.
The entry and exit gates at seven metro stations were closed after a violent protest broke out in Seelampur area.
The seven metro stations where entry and exit gates were closed included Seelampur, Gokulpuri, Welcome, Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar . Trains will not be halting at these stations.
