Forest officials rescue an Indian flap shell turtle

Guwahati: The Assam forest department officials had rescued one Indian flap shell Turtle and arrested one person in connection to the incident in Assam’s Biswanath district.

According to the reports, based on reliable sources, the forest officials at West Forest Range under Biswanath Forest Division had launched operation at Biswanath and rescued the turtle from a vehicle.

The forest officials had also arrested a person named Kandarpa Bora, a resident of Juria area in Nagaon district, who carried the turtle.

A forest official said that, the rescued Indian flap shell turtle is protected under Schedule-I of Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

“We had received an information that, a vehicle came from Nagaon to Panpur to sale fishes. After selling the fishes, they had carried a turtle. When we stopped the vehicle and searched, we recovered an Indian flap shell turtle. We had also arrested a person named Kandarpa Bora in connection with it,” the forest official said.
