Srinagar, Jun 30 (IBNS): Heavy rains and landslides on Friday morning have forced the suspension of the annual Amarnath Yatra, which began on Thursday, reports said.

An official of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) told the media that the journey has been temporarily suspended while urging devotees to check the status of the yatra with the helpline before setting off.

Following the commencement of the yearly pilgrimage, over 6000 devotees have already paid their visit to the revered shrine.

The Amarnath pilgrimage is considered one of the most important one for Hindus.
