Hyderabad: Woman veterinarian raped and murdered, set afire, Centre issues advisory to states

New Delhi/IBNS: Amid a nationwide outrage and shock over the Hyderabad rape and brutal murder of a 26-year-old veterinarian, whose body was recovered in burnt form, the Centre on Friday issued an advisory to the states to take stricter actions into crimes against women, media reports said.

This comes  a day after the body of the veterinarian, which was badly burnt, was found in Hyderabad while nationwide there were more reports from states from Kerala (Ernakulam) to West Bengal (Kolkata) and Jharkhand of rapes, gangrapes and murders after the assault in the past few days.

According to the police, the Hyderabad woman was raped before being murdered.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs has sent an advisory to all states as a precautionary measure so that no such incident takes place in future," Minister of State (Home) G Kishan Reddy was quoted as saying by media on Friday.

Reddy informed that the local police already arrested the main culprit adding that all accused should get capital punishment.

"On behalf of the central government, I am talking to the state government officials. The Telangana DGP (police chief) is also coming to Delhi today and he will meet me. Those who were involved in the crime should be socially boycotted and no lawyer should represent them," he said.

What happened?

On Wednesday night, the woman had gone missing while she was returning to her home from the workplace.

Her younger sister lodged a complaint with the police where she informed that she got a call from the victim at 9.22 pm on Wednesday stating she was stranded at a toll plaza as her two-wheeler had a puncture.

On Thursday morning, the police recovered her clothes, handbag, footwear and a liquor bottle near the toll booth where she had parked her bike.

The victim's body was found with 70 per cent burn injuries under a bridge, in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, which is some 30 km away from the toll booth.

The family could identify the body with the help of a Lord Ganesha locket that the victim used to wear.

The body was then handed over for autopsy.

The police suspect that the culprits might have strangled her after raping and then poured kerosene on the victim's body to burn it.

The bike was found 10 km away from the body.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the murder.

Meanwhile, the incident has led to a massive outcry across the country with people demanding justice for the victim.

People have been taking to social media to share the victim's painful story and demand justice for her.

Rapes and murders across India

Other reports of sexual assaults and murders poured in too. In Kerala a woman was allegedly raped and killed by a migrant labourer from Assam in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam on Thursday.

Reports from Kolkata said two minor street girls were raped by three near a canal in broad daylight in the eastern metropolis on Thursday.

The police in Jharkhand arrested 12 men for allegedly raping a 25-year-old law student in Ranchi.
