I don't think he was beaten up: BS Bassi on Kanhaiya Kumar attack

New Delhi, Feb 17 (IBNS): The Delhi Police on Wednesday denied reports that JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar was beaten up when he was brought to the court here.

"I don't think he was beaten up. My information is that there was lot of jostling at the venue when he was brought to the court," Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi told reporters.

"He was escorted by police officers. Our police officers were also subjected to lot fo jostling," he said.

"You cannot say the situation went out of hands," Bassi said.

Meanwhile, attacking the Delhi Police, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: "Del Pol openly flouting SC orders. Bassi acting so brazenly. What is source of his confidence? What instructions does he hv from his bosses?"

The Delhi court sent Kumar to judicial custody till Mar 2.

He was arrested on sedition charges.

Kumar was allegedly attacked when he was brought to a Delhi court for hearing a case against him on Wednesday.

He was allegedly kicked and punched by the attackers.

In a repetition of Monday's images, a group of lawyers allegedly attacked students and journalists at the Patiala House court premises hereon Wednesday.

The attack occurred ahead of a hearing on the case related to Kumar.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)  is currently facing protests and counter protests with the police cracking down on students over the anti-India slogans raised earlier to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.

JNU teachers, students and media persons were allegedly attacked by lawyers in New Delhi's Patiala Court on Monday.
