New Delhi/IBNS: The sixth India-Maldives joint commission meeting(JCM) will begin on Friday after a gap of over four years, Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said here today.

Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, who is in India on a five-day-visit will lead the meeting along with External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar, he said.

The Foreign Minister of Maldives is leading a large 31-member delegation, including senior officials of all major ministries and departments in the government of Maldives, for the meeting, "which is reflective of the depth and scope of our relationship with the Maldives, which has gained momentum in the last one year under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih," Kumar said.

"We expect during the meeting the entire relationship, past and expanding relations between the two countries will be discussed and chart out the future engagements," Kumar said.

Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the conclusion of the JCM, he informed.
