India ranked fourth in the recently released Global Firepower Index 2025 which showcased the country's military strength on the world stage.

The ranking reflected the strong position India holds in the military sector.

It is just behind the USA (1), Russia (2) and China (3).

South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Turkey, and Italy are the other nations which held the top 10 positions on the list.

The Global Firepower Index 2025 website said it evaluated the military powers based on 60 parameters.

On the contrary, Idnia's arch-rival Pakistan slipped from the 9th place in 2024 to stand at the 12th position in the latest ranking.

India ranks Forbes list of powerful nations

The United States topped the list of the world's most powerful nations compiled by Forbes which also featured China in the second position.

Israel, which has been engaged in a war against the Hamas group for more than a year now, is ranked tenth on the list.

Forbes said its list was created by keeping in mind several important parameters that include leadership, economic influence, political influence, strong international alliances, and military strength.

India is the world's most populated nation and is also the fifth largest economy,  ranked 12, above Canada.

Forbes said the ranking model was devised by BAV Group, which is a unit of global marketing communications company WPP, and researchers led by Professor David Reibstein from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, all in association with US News & World Report.

As per the Forbes ranking, India, with a population of 1.43 billion, is estimated to have a GDP of $3.55 trillion.

The USA, which recently witnessed a political shift with Donald Trump taking charge of the country, stood at the top position in the list with a GDP estimated at  USD 30.34.

China, with a GDP of $19.53 trillion, stood in the second position on the list.
