Kochi: First of four illegal flats in Maradu demolished

Kochi/IBNS: Following the Supreme Court order, the first of the four illegal flats in Kochi's Maradu was demolished in a controlled explosion on Saturday, media report said.

The Supreme Court four months ago had ordered the demolition of four illegal luxury multi-storey apartment for violation of environmental laws.

The twin towers of Alfa Serena will be torn down shortly while the rest will be demolished on Sunday.

Section 144 of Indian Penal Code, which prohibits gathering of four or more people, was imposed in the area before the demolition.

The district authorities had conducted a door-to-door search to ensure no people are present in any of the flats.
