Kolkata restaurant fire: 1 killed, 2 injured

Kolkata, Apr 19 (IBNS): A major fire broke out in a restaurant in Kolkata's Jadavpur area on Wednesday morning, killing at least one man and leaving two others injured, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first seen at around 11:30 am at Badsah restaurant near K.P.C. Medical College and Hospital under Jadavpur Police Station along the southern fringe of Kolkata.

As many as three fire tenders rushed to the scene and firemen fought for nearly an hour to douse the massive blaze.

Policemen also rushed to the spot.

Three staffers of the restaurant were seriously injured in the incident and rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of them, Ranen Bera (30), was declared dead.

Fire department has started investigation into the case to know the exact reason behind the fire.

"After preliminary probe, we are suspecting that the fire started after a LPG cylinder explosion and it spread very fast as the restaurant did not have sufficient fire extinguishing system," a senior official of state fire and emergency services told IBNS.
