Mamata Banerjee congratulates Mary Kom for winning gold medal World Boxing Championships

Kolkata, Nov 24 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday wished Indian boxer Mary Kom after she clinched the gold medal in the  Women's World Boxing Championships.

"Congratulations Mary Kom for winning a record sixth world title. We are proud of your golden achievement at the Women's World Boxing Championships @MangteC," Banerjee tweeted.

Creating history, Indian boxer Mary Kom clinched a gold in the Women's World Championship by beating Ukraine's Hanna Okhota at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.

She has won in the women's 48kg light flyweight final of the championships by a unanimous decision of 5-0.

Mary had earlier won gold medals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 editions of the championships.

Following her win, Mary said as she has been quoted by NDTV, "I want to thank the fans who turned up today to cheer me and the Indian contingent. They have been supporting me for last many years."
