Mayawati denies her call for Opposition unity for 2019 Lok Sabha election

Lucknow, Aug 21 (IBNS): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati rejected any of her call for Opposition unity in 2019 Lok Sabha election, media reports said.

Earlier, on BSP's verified Twitter account, a picture was shared where several Opposition leaders like Congress President Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and her son Tejashwi Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, rebel JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav were present.

However, Mayawati told media on Monday that the BSP has no Twitter handle and the news was fake.

The picture urged all opposition political parties to unite for a social cause.

The Twitter handle does no longer exist.

The picture had created a widespread speculation about the Opposition unity ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha election as the 17 to 18 non-BJP parties came together to field their joint candidates in the recently concluded Presidential and Vice Presidential elections.

While Meira Kumar was defeated by NDA's candidate Ram Nath Kovind, former BJP veteran Venkaiah Naidu won over Opposition's Gopal Krishna Gandhi in the Presidential and Vice Presidential polls respectively.
