Narada: CBI again grills IPS S.M.H. Mirza

Kolkata, June 23 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday interrogated senior IPS officer S.M.H. Mirza in connection with Narada sting for the second time.

Earlier on Thursday, IPS Mirza and Madrasa teacher Tiger Mirza, who allegedly introduced Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel with Kolkata deputy Mayor Iqbal Ahmed, were quizzed by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) respectively for hours in connection with Narada tapes.

According to CBI sources, two Mirzas are currently being quizzed at CBI office in south Kolkata's Nizam Palace.

Since March 14 last year, news portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where TMCs leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were seen allegedly taking bribes.

From the beginning, TMC leadership has claimed that the sting footage is doctored and is a conspiracy of the opposition party.

After getting direction from the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court, the CBI started probing into the case.

On Apr 17, the investigation agency registered an FIR in connection with the case under several non-bailable sections against 12 influential leaders, cabinet ministers, MLAs and MPs of TMC and one senior IPS officer, who were allegedly seen taking bribes in the sting footage, reports said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also registered a money laundering case based on the Narada sting and the Central Economic Intelligence Agency is currently investigating the case.
