Punjab vigilance nabs constable over taking bribe
Chandigarh, Sep 13 (UNI) Punjab State Vigilance Bureau on Friday nabbed a constable while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
Constable Sarbjeet Singh posted at police post Humbran, Ludhiana district was caught red-handed on the complaint of Ajmer Singh of Sarup Nagar, Salem Tabri, Ludhiana, a VB spokesman said here.
According to him, the complainant approached the vigilance bureau and alleged that the accused police official was demanding Rs 50,000 for not registering a theft case against him and the deal was struck at Rs 30,000.
Ajmer further informed that he had already paid Rs 5,000 as a first installment to the constable.
After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused constable was arrested on the spot while taking the bribe of Rs 10,000 as second installment from the complainant.
He informed that a case under different sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him and further investigation was under progress.
