S Jaishankar meets top Spanish leaders during his visit, discusses ways to strengthen ties

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is currently visiting Spain, met King Felipe VI in Madrid and said he valued his guidance for the further advancement of the relationship between the two nations.

After the meeting, Jaishankar posted on X: "Conveyed the warm wishes of President Droupadi Murmu and PM @narendramodi . Value his guidance for the further advancement of India-Spain ties."

During his visit, Jaishankar also met Spanish President Pedro Sanchez.

The Indian Minister wrote on X: "Called on President @sanchezcastejon of Spain today in Madrid. Conveyed greetings of PM @narendramodi."

"Recalled his successful visit to India which reaffirmed our long standing partnership. Briefed him on my discussions in Madrid and apprised him of progress on our bilateral agenda," he said.

Jaishankar discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the defence sector during his meeting with Minister  Margarita Robles.

"EAM also met with Defence Minister Margarita Robles and noted that the C-295 Aircraft Assembly line Plant at Vadodara has been an important project and has taken the defence and security cooperation between the two countries to the next level. The two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the defence sector,"  read the statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Jaishankar visited Spain from January 13 to January 14.

Jaishankar held a meeting with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares and reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation, and regional and global matters of mutual interest.

"The Ministers expressed satisfaction over the progress in diverse sectors including trade & economy, defence & security, tourism, culture and people-to-people ties," read the statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

"They also discussed ways of increasing collaboration in new and emerging sectors of digital technology, AI, renewable energy, and space. EAM also delivered the Keynote Address at the 9th Annual Conference of Spanish Ambassadors on the theme ‘A Foreign Policy with our own Identity’," the statement said.

MEA said two MoUs on cooperation in the field of Sports, and cooperation in the field of Sustainable Urban Development were signed during the visit.
