SC directs Govinda to meet complainant in person for reconciliation
Govinda offered an unconditional apology and Rs 5 lakhs as compensation.
During the shooting of a film in 2008, Govinda, then a sitting Lok Sabha MP, had slapped Rai, allegedly for misbehaving with women on the sets.
As the trial progressed, the actor's lawyers had challenged the video clip of the slapping contending that it was morphed.
But the court had rejected the claims and asked Govinda to meet the aggrieved fan and settle the dispute.
According to media reports, complainant Rai's advocate alleged the Govinda had not made any effort to meet his client but was trying to mediate either through his lawyer or personal secretary.
Apparently, Govinda did not turn up at a pre-arranged meeting on Feb 6 and had tendered the apology through his lawyer.
On Tuesday, the court refused to accept the terms of settlement and directed Govinda to meet Rai personally within two weeks and reconcile the issue.
