SC gives nod to Centre's deportation of seven Rohingyas to Myanmar
New Delhi, Oct 4 (IBNS): Providing some relief to the Centre, the Supreme Court on Thursday gave nod to the Union government's decision of deporting seven Rohingyas to Myanmar, media reports said.
The top court has rejected all pleas against the deportation.
The seven Rohingyas are expected to be deported from Assam on Thursday.
In Silchar, Assam, a police official told The Times Of India that Mohammad Jamal, Maqbul Khan, Jamal Hussain, Mohammad Yunus, Sabbir Ahmed, Rahim Uddin and Mohammad Salam entered India through the Bangladesh border 10 years ago.
This is the first case of deportation of Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Meanwhile, the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees had intervened in the matter saying the international law prohibits forcible deportation of the refugees considering the hostile situation in Myanmar.
However, Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi said the country is not carrying out any "ethnic cleansing".
