Srinagar by-polls: 12-year-old killed in alleged police firing

Srinagar, Apr 9 (IBNS): A 12-year-old youth was killed in Srinagar on Sunday as a group of people started protesting outside a polling booth in Budgam district of central Kashmir, which is witnessing the by-polls of the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.

According to reports, the youth was killed in alleged police firing.

Police reportedly used teargas shells on protesters which resulted in the injury of many youths.

The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital where Faizan Ahmed Rather succumbed to his injuries.

Another youth named Jehangir Ahmed is also reported to be critical.

As the election is underway here, more than 1,500 polling stations have been set up for the by-polls.

Nearly 12.61 lakh electorate are eligible to take part in the election process.
