Guwahati, Dec 14 (IBNS) : Two poachers were killed in a fierce gun fight with forest guards in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on Sunday night, officials said on Monday.

An official of the park said that the incident took place at Azar Kathoni area under Bagori forest range inside the park.

“Based on intelligence input we were informed about presence of a poacher group who entered in the park to kill rhino. When forest guards located their presence the poacher group had started firing and force us to exchange bullets, in which two poachers killed on spot,” the forest official said.

Forest guards recovered arms and ammunition and other equipments using in poaching from the encounter area.

In this year at least 30 rhinos have been killed in the state so far.

On other hand at least 22 poachers were killed during gun fight with forest guards and police alone in Kaziranga in this year so far.
