Uttar Pradesh Police files case against 1000 students of Aligarh Muslim University: Reports

Lucknow/IBNS: Uttar Pradesh police has registered a case against 1000 unidentified students of Aligarh University allegedly involved in violent anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests, media reports said.   

According to an NDTV report, an FIR has been lodged accusing the students of "raising anti-national slogans", "peliting stones at personnel", " vandalising official vehicles".

Students have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Criminal Law Amendment Act, thereport added.

On Dec 15, Aligarh Muslim University had taken out a solidarity march in support of the Jamia Milia University in Delhi following a tussel between the students and the policemen in the national capital. However, the police tried to stop them at the university gate and allegedly used force, including lathi charge and water cannons at the students. Several videos emerged showing police smashing bikes and beating students, NDTV said.

Police has said it used force only after students turned violent. Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh OP Singh told NDTV that his colleagues usedrestraint.
