V-P poll: Venkaiah Naidu, Gopal Krishna Gandhi to file nomination today

New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): The two candidates for the vice presidential poll, NDA backed Venkaiah Naidu and the Opposition's choice Gopal Krishna Gandhi, will file their nomination on Tuesday.

While 18 opposition parties named the former West Bengal governor as their candidate, the ruling BJP picked their senior leader Venkaiah Naidu for the V-P contest.

Naidu was the Information and Broadcasting minister of the union government. He resigned from the ministry on Monday late evening, to contest the V-P poll.

Naidu's win is likely to be easier since NDA bags the required number of electoral votes.

The vice-president of India is elected by the members of the parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) in accordance with the system of proportional representation.
