Pune, Oct 11 (IBNS): Veteran actor Anupam Kher, on Wednesday, was appointed as the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), according to media reports.

He will replace Gajendra Chauhan, whose appointment has sparked off an intense controversy as well as protests by students of the institute.

Chauhan had shot to fame with his role as Yudhisthira in the TV epic serial Mahabharata.

According to media reports, Kher too had opposed Chauhan's appointment at that time.

Anupam Kher’s wife, Kirran thanked the Indian government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Smriti Irani for the appointment, reported while speaking to CNN-News 18.
