Kolkata, Jul 8 (IBNS): A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) team from the Centre was stopped from visiting strife-torn Basirhat and adjoining areas, about 80km from Kolkata, on Saturday, according to media reports.

BJP MPs Meenakshi Lekhi, Om Mathur, and Satyapal Singh were stopped from visiting the riot-torn area in West Bengal by the local police.

They were later taken to the Airport Police Station, media reports said.

Clashes erupted earlier this week in Baduria, Swarupnagar, Deganga and Basirhat towns following a Facebook post.
