What happened today has put the country's democracy to shame : West Bengal Governor

| @indiablooms | Dec 05, 2019, at 03:06 pm

Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday had to  wait in front of locked gate of the state Assembly, which is designated  for him, and later entered the House through another gate meant for  media persons and officials.

Vehmently condemning the incident, Mr Dhankar said, '' What happened today has put the country's democracy to shame. ''

He questioned why the gate was closed when there was prior information  and said, '' Adjournment of the House doesn't mean it is closed. ''

The Governor had earlier written to Speaker Biman Banerjee that he desired to visit the library.

It may be mentioned that the Assembly was adjourned for  two days  till today as the Bills scheduled to be placed could not be tabled as  they were yet to receive the nod of the Governor.

Yesterday, Mr Dhankar was also forced to wait for the vice-chancellor of the Calcutta University as her office was locked during his visit.

The Governor, also the chancellor of state universities, enquired about Sonali Chakravarty Bondhopadhyay’s whereabout but was told by the staff that they were unaware.

Other senior administrative members were also not present during his visit.

Mr Dhankar waited in the adjacent room for a while and then left the campus.
