Canberra, Jan 20 (IBNS): In one of the most worst collapses the cricket world has witnessed in recent times , India lost the fourth ODI against Australia by 25 runs here on Wednesday.

Chasing down a mammoth 349 for victory, Indian batsmen surrendered at 323 all out in 49.2 overs.

Virat Kohli (106) and Shikhar Dhawan  (126) put up a 212 runs in second wicket partnership which ignited hopes in the hearts of Indians that the visiting side might clinch a victory after three straight defeats. But, their efforts failed to gain results with the Indian batting line-up collapsing after Kohli and Dhawan departed midway.

Rohit Sharma (41) and Dhawan had posted 65 runs in the first wicket partnership.

Kohli hammered 11 boundaries and a six in his knock while Dhawan contributed 14 boundaries and two sixes in his 154-ball innings and they looked to confirtable reach the target.

John Hastings took the wickets of Dhawan and MS Dhoni (0) in the same over to give a huge blow to the Indian run chase.

Things turned worst after Kane Richardson, who took five wickets in the match, got rid off Kohli to shatter all hopes for India.

Except Ravindra Jadeja's (24*) fight, the rest of Indian batting lineup collapsed like nine pins, leaving India defeated in the fourth consecutive match of the series.

Richardson took five, John Hastings and Mitchell Marsh scalped two each while Nathan Lyon picked a single wicket in the match.

Earlier, riding on Aaron Finch's 107, Australia put up 348 for eight on the scoreboard in their 50 overs.

David Warner, who returned to the side with the match, scored 93 runs while Steve Smith (51) and Glenn Maxwell contributed 41 runs with their willows.

Ishant Sharma took four wickets while Umesh Yadav picked up three for India.

Australia took 4-0 lead after winning the match. The hosts have already won the series.
