BCCI rubbishes reports about Kohli-Paine 'banter'
Mumbai, Dec 18 (IBNS): The Indian cricket board Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rejected claims captain Virat Kohli had engaged in banter with his rival Australian skipper Tim Paine during the second Test at Perth Stadium.
The Indian board rubbished media reports which claimed the Kohli had bragged of being the top batsman in the world as he attempted to ridicule Paine.
The BCCI said Kohli never bragged about himself.
"There are reports doing the rounds in the media and across social media platforms claiming India Captain Virat Kohli got involved in a banter with Australia Captain Tim Paine during the 2nd Test at Perth," the Indian Board said in a statement.
"It is 'assumed' that Kohli said, 'I am the best player in the world and you are just a stand-in captain'," said the statement.
"These claims were based on hearsay and the BCCI would like to bring into notice that no such words were spoken on the field by the Indian captain," it said.
Australia defeated India in the second Test match of the series.
Australia levelled the series 1-1.
