New Delhi/IBNS: "Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauding the Indian track and field athlete for winning the silver medal in javelin throw in the Olympics 2024.

The Prime Minister posted on X, "Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified! Time and again he’s shown his brilliance. India is elated that he comes back with yet another Olympic success. Congratulations to him on winning the Silver.

"He will continue to motivate countless upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams and make our nation proud."

His season's best throw was 89.45m at the Paris Olympics 2024.

He lost the gold to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem who set a new Olympic record mark of 92.97m throw.

Neeraj, who won gold at the Tokyo Summer Games three years back, registered a huge throw of 89.34 metres in Group B of the men's javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday and made his way into the finals.

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who breached the 90m mark at the Commonwealth Games in 2022, also qualified for the javelin throw final with his season-best throw of 86.59 m.

This was India's second medal win on Thursday with the Indian men's hockey team earlier bagging the bronze medal at the Olympics.

With this, India's present medals tally stands at five. Manu Bhaker registered the first medal for India with a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol individual event.

She and Sarabjot Singh won bronze in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event. Bhaker became the first Indian to win more than one medal in a single Olympics edition.
