Bulawayo, July 22 (IBNS): Pakistan's opening batsman Fakhar Zaman grabbed attention once again on Sunday as he wrote his name in the record books during the ongoing fifth ODI match against Zimbabwe.

The stylish batsman is now the fastest batsman to score 1000 ODI runs in the 50 over format.

Fakhar took just 18 innings to reach the feat.

He shattered West Indian legend Viv Richards record of touching 1000 runs in 21 innings.

During the last ODI match against Zimbabwe on Friday, the Pakistani had become the first player from the country to score a double century in the 50 overs format of the game.

Apart from the double century, he also stitched a world record partnership of 304 runs for the opening wicket with Imam-ul-Haq.

Fakar had made his ODI debut just a year ago during the ICC Champions Trophy match against India.

In the current series against Zimbabwe, he had recorded scores of 60, 117*, 43* and 210* prior to the latest innings.
