Fourth test : England close to 400 losing eight wickets at lunch
Butler, the English Vice Captain ,who was at 18 at the end of play on Thursday when visitors had already lost five precious wickets for 288, remained not out with 64 in a fine display of grit and technique along with tail ender Jake Ball (29).
Ravichandran Ashwin, who had finished Thursday with four wickets, picked up another on Friday, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed three scalps.
Earlier in the day, England's overnight batsman Ben Stokes fell to Ashwin scoring 31, while Chris Woaks and Adil Rashid went back to pavilion without contributing much and leaving it all on Butler to keep the scoreboard moving.
In the five-match series, India is leading 2-0 winning the second and third test matches against England.
