Hobart: Ireland's brilliant performance in the World T20 continues as the squad beat two-time champions West Indies by nine wickets in a qualifying stage clash of the crucial ICC tournament here.

After restricting West Indies to 146 for the loss of five wickets, Ireland reached 150 runs by losing only one wicket.

Paul Stirling (66*) and Lorcan Tucker (45*) reached the winning target for Ireland.

Skipper Andy Balbirnie added 37 runs before his wicket was picked up by Akeal Hosein (38/1)

Their exact position to the next level will be confirmed by the outcome of the clash between Scotland and Zimbabwe.

West Indies, after this defeat, will not feature in the main event of the tournament.

This is the first time the former champions will not feature in the main stage of the T20 World Cup.

The team had earlier suffered defeat at the hand of Scotland.
