Galle, Aug 12 (IBNS): Indian bowlers dominated the day as they bowled out Sri Lanka for 183 runs in their first innings on the first day of the Test series here on Wednesday.

R Ashwin used the conditions well to destroy the Sri Lankan batting lineup as he finished with a figure of 6-46.

He even broke the crucial partnership between skipper Angelo Mathews  (64) and Dinesh Chandimal (59) that looked promising after they posted 79 runs  partnership for the sixth wicket.

Amit Mishra picked up two wickets, including Chandimal, while Varun Aaron and Ishant Sharma scalped a wicket each.

Kumar Sangakkara, who is playing his last international series, failed and departed after scoring 5 runs with his willow. Ashwin showed him the door towards the pavilion.

Sri Lanka earlier won the toss and elected to bat first.
