Stokes hit century as England pile up 537,Indian openers make strng start

Rajkot, Nov 10 (IBNS): Indian finished the second day's play of the first Test at 63 for the loss of no wickets as England put pressure on the home side by piling up massive 537 for the loss of all wickets in their first innings here on Thursday.

Murali Vijay (25*) and Gautam Gambhir (28*) will resume the proceedings for the home side on Friday.

 

Both the openers played sensibly to finish off the day's proceedings without any  damage.

 

India is trailing England by 474 runs.

 

England put up a spirited performance with three batsmen scoring centuries.

 

Ben Stokes (128) smashed a crucial innings as he joined Jonny Bairstow (46) to add 99 runs in the sixth wicket partnership.

 


It was Stokes and his innings which put England on an advantageous position.

 

He hit 13 boundaries and two sixes in his 235-ball commanding knock.

 

Moeen Ali, who scored another century and played a major role in helping the visitors pile up a massive total at the scorecard, moved from 99 overnight to 117.

 

At the end of the first day's play, England were England 311-4.

 

Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets for India.
