At least three dead, 30 injured in accident in Cuba

Havana, May 20 (Xinhua/UNI) A vintage car drove onto the sidewalk in the middle of the emblematic Malecon seafront boulevard here, killing at least three people and injuring 30 others, according to authorities.

The car ran into a group of people at dawn. One person was killed at the scene, while two others died at a local hospital on Sunday.


The injured, including two foreigners whose nationality has not been released, are under treatment at the hospital.


The accident took place at the intersection of Avenue 23 and Malecon, a popular area for pastime.


According to the National Traffic Safety Commission, a traffic accident was recorded every 52 minutes in Cuba last year. In total, there were 10,070 accidents, which resulted in 683 deaths and 7,730 injuries.
