British PM to meet senior Tory amid calls for resignation

| @indiablooms | May 07, 2019, at 05:13 pm

London, May 7 (Xinhua/UNI) British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to meet a senior Tory on Tuesday to address calls from inside the Conservative Party for her to resign.

May will meet Graham Brady, the chairman of an influential committee of backbench Tory MPs, as there have been calls for a firm resignation date.

It follows a request from the Tory 1922 committee for "clarity" on the issue. But 10 Downing Street insisted that the meeting is routine.

Education Secretary Damian Hinds told local media Tuesday that people should not "read too much" into the timing of the prime minister's meeting with Brady.

Cross-party talks to break the Brexit deadlock are due to resume.
