Egypt sends condolences to Russia over deadly plane accident

Cairo, May 7 (Xinhua) Egypt offered condolences on Monday to Russian victims of a deadly plane fire at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport on Sunday, which left 41 passengers dead and several others injured.

In a statement, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that the country fully supports the government and people of Russia in their ordeal and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Al-Azhar, the highest Islamic learning institution for Egypt and the Sunni Muslim world, mourned for the victims.

Al-Azhar expressed, in a statement, sincere condolences to the Russian government, people and the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The plane took off from the airport but then returned to make an emergency landing, with the rear part of the plane bursting into flames as it hit the runway.

At least 41 people were killed in the accident.
