Yokohama, Japan, May 26 (UNI): Four crew members were missing after two Japanese cargo ships collided on Sunday in the Pacific to Japan's east, the coast guard official said.

The Sensho Maru, based in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, sank and four of its five crew are missing, the Japan Coast Guard official said in a statement.

According to a report in Mainichi Japan, the 499-ton Sumiho Maru and another 499-ton ship, the Sensho Maru, collided about 12 kilometres off Inubosaki in Chiba Prefecture at around 0210 hrs.

The Sumiho Maru based in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture called for assistance after the accident.

According to the coast guard official, visibility was low as the dense fog had covered the area at the time of the accident.

All four crew members are safe, however, there are no details available about the scale of the damage, he said.
