London, May 3 (Sputnik): UK police cordoned off on Friday Piccadilly Gardens, a green space in Manchester city center, after finding a suspicious package nearby, the Greater Manchester Police said.

"A cordon is in place in Piccadilly Gardens after reports of a suspicious package were made. A man aged 26 has been detained by police and enquiries into the incident are ongoing," the police said on its Twitter blog.

The police also called on the people working nearby to follow the directions from the police and stay indoors if asked to do so.
