Mogadishu, Aug 20 (Xinhua/UNI) The US military said Tuesday its special forces killed on militant in an airstrike against al-Shabab terrorists in southern Somalia.

The U.S. Africa Command (Africom) which oversees American troops on the African continent said the latest strike was conducted early Tuesday in cooperation with Somali government in the vicinity of Kunyo Barrow.

"This strike is an example of the pressure U.S. Africa Command places on terrorist networks, including the al-Qaida aligned al-Shabaab," said William Gayler, Africom director of operations.

"This persistent pressure limits the terrorists' freedom of movement, creates confusion within the network, and supports our Somali partners as they continue to take the fight to al-Shabaab," he added in the statement.

Africom, which has in the past conducted counterterrorism airstrikes against the terror group in Somalia said no civilians were injured or killed as a result of the latest airstrike.
