Assam: Four of a marriage party die as Tata Magic-truck collide

Guwahati/IBNS: At least four people including a woman of a marriage party were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Sunday night.

The accident took place at Pawoi near Digboi on the National Highway – 38 where the passenger vehicle collided head-on with a coal-laden truck.

Eight others were also injured in the accident and they were rushed to nearby hospital.

According to the reports, at least 12 people were travelling in a Tata Magic vehicle bearing registration number AS-23CC-3431 returning from a marriage ceremony and the vehicle collided head-on with a coal-laden truck (bearing registration number AS-01JC-2935) coming from opposite direction.

Four people died on spot and eight others sustained injuries.

The deceased were identified as Bishu Dad (driver of the passenger vehicle), Jairam Shah, Jaleshwar Giri and Urmila Devi.

The truck driver fled from the spot after the accident.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started investigation.
