Centre to send team to inspect crop damage due to unseasonal rain in Maharashtra
Aurangabad/IBNS: A five -member team, comprising high-level central administrative officials, will visit the rain fury affected parts across Maharashtra on Nov 22 to assess the damage caused to Kharif crops in the unseasonal rain.
According to sources, the team will then submit a detailed report on the three-day survey, which will decide government's course of action to assist the farmers.
Meanwhile, the state government has demanded a financial assistance of Rs 8,200 from the centre through the National Disaster Relief Fund to help the farmers who have lost their crops completely. In 2018, the flood-stricken it sought a recompensation of Rs 7,200 crores from center and remaining Rs 1,000 crore was borne by the state itself.
The official said that the crops on estimated 94,53,139 hectares were damaged due to rain while the number of the affected farmers is more than one crore.
Aurangabad division is worst hit, he said, adding that soyabean and cotton are the worst hit.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari had on Nov 16 announced financial relief to farmers whose crop was damaged in unseasonal rain, and ordered its immediate disbursal.
The relief entails Rs 8,000 per hectare up to two hectares for agricultural kharif crops and Rs 18,000 per hectare up to two hectares for horticulture/perennial crops.
Earlier this month, former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had approved Rs 10,000 crore as a special assistance for affected farmers.
