Is Pakistan media blacks out massive Maryam Nawaz Sharif rallies under govt pressure?
Islamabad: Is the Pakistan media being coerced to black out the political programmes of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, which has urged its supporters to join her in a march to Islamabad.
According to sources, there has been a kind of blackout in Pakistani media of a huge rally for Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Pakpattan on Aug 2.
Sources said the news channels are under instructions to only run negative stories about her.
However, video footages on social media showed despite the ban, tens of thousands welcomed her on the way and at the venue.

Some political observers said the "state repression through media, anchors and NAB not working as masses are unmoved in Punjab and elsewhere."
According to a report in Dawn, on Sunday at a mass contact campaign —a 'Free Nawaz Sharif' rally in Khushab — the daughter of the jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif called on supporters to "heed the call by their party to march to Islamabad for the final shove to topple the government".
"To [drive the final nail in the coffin] against this fake government, if your party Muslim League Noon calls on you to march on Islamabad, will you accompany me there?" she asked crowds gathered in a village off the Lillah interchange who gave her a rousing reception during her stop there, reported Dawn.
