Hazaribagh, Aug 10 (UNI) A hardcore ultra of the CPI (Maoists) was killed on Saturday during an encounter between the security personnel comprising the jawans of the district police and the elite COBRA battalion of the CRPF in Satweya Forest located under Chouparan Police Station area of this district in Jharkhand.

The killed ultra was later identified as Lal Das Mochi a resident of  Danara village under Bhagwanpur Police Station area of Patna district of Bihar.

More than two dozen cases are registered against him in separate police station areas of Patna district.

Hazaribagh SP Mayur Patel has confirmed the incident.

An Insas rifle was also recovered from the spot.

Following a tip-off regarding the presence of the Maoists in the area a team of the security personnel reached the forest and as soon as the Maoists saw them they opened fire over which the security personnel retaliated.

In the gun battle, Laldas Mochi was killed while the other fled into the deeper reaches of the forest towards Bihar as the area shares borders with Jharkhand and Bihar.

Police have caught eight villagers who have been accused of helping the Maoists, providing them with food and sheltering them.

These men were later brought to Chouparan Police Station.
