Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announces resignation

| @indiablooms | Nov 26, 2019, at 03:43 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: Ahead of the floor test, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced his resignation on Tuesday.

Fadnavis said he will submit his resignation letter to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Fadnavis resigned after his party failed to cobble up the required number of 145.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader took oath as the Chief Minister quite controversially on Saturday early morning after getting the support of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar who had claimed 35 of his party MLAs were with him to support the saffron party.

After the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress moved the Supreme Court challenging the government formation, the top court on Tuesday ordered a floor test in the Maharashtra assembly by 5 pm on Wednesday.

The Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress alliance- termed as Maha Vikas Aghadi- will meet at 5 pm to elect its leader.

Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is likely to become the Chief Minister.

"Uddhav ji will become the Chief Minister," said Sena MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut.

Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar earlier resigned as the Deputy Chief Minister before Fadnavis' stepping down.

The Sena (56), NCP (54) and Congress (44) together have 154 MLAs if Ajit Pawar is included.

On the other hand, the BJP, the single largest party, has 105 seats.
