New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI): Opposition parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), protested in Lok Sabha on Thursday saying the government was 'rushing' the bills through and that they cannot be taken for granted.

As soon as the House met for the day, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury rose to say that the government was rushing the bills and the members do not get time for preparation.

Speaker Om Birla assured the Members that he will ensure that they get at least a day's time to prepare for the bill before it is brought in the House for consideration and passing.

'Since I was chosen to to be the Speaker, it is my responsibility to see that I run the House with consensus of all MPs. As you requested, I will see to it personally that before a bill is listed, all members are informed at least a day in advance, so you can prepare for it,' Birla said.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said bills have been introduced 15 days ago and discussed in Business Advisory Committee also. They were in circulated also and every Friday, next week's entire business is also announced, he maintained.

'This is an extended session. The Government has serious and important business to complete,' he said and appealed to all members to cooperate.

Trinamool leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay said confusion was being created, first list of business, then revised list of business at 9 PM. 'Members do not get time to read bills or prepare for discussion,' he said.

DMK leader Kanimozhi said members cannot be taken for granted.

The Dam Safety Bill was listed for Wednesday, but could not be taken up, and the Members were expecting it to be taken up on Thursday.

Today's list of business included The Insolvency and Bankruptcy (Amendment) Bill, The Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) bill.

Assuring the Members, the Speaker said their concerns will be addressed.
