'Yogi sabse bada bhogi hai': Mamata Banerjee slams Uttar Pradesh CM over Murshidabad riots remark

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday called her Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath "sabse bada bhogi (the greatest pleasurist)", lashing out at the firebrand Hindutva leader's remark on the Murshidabad riots.

In a recent address, Adityanath, a saint, had said, "Bengal is burning but the respected Chief Minister is silent. She calls the rioters harbinger of peace. How can people who understand only the language of beatings behave as per appeals. The rioters have been given a freerun for rioting in the name of secularism..."

In response, Mamata targeted Adityanath over the deadly stampede which took place at Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to the Muslim clerics in Kolkata, Mamata said, "Yogi is giving lectures! Sabse bada bhogi hai (He is the greatest pleasurist). How many people had died and were injured in Maha Kumbh? Has he produced the list in public? No, he didn't. He only gives lectures. How many people has he killed in encounters?

"He doesn't allow a single rally to be held (in Uttar Pradesh) and terrorise people. Bengal has freedom so CPI-M, CPI, SUCI, Congress and even ultra Left sometimes can hold rallies in Bengal. However, BJP doesn't need any permission to hold rallies as they are allowed by the actual place. People get what I mean."

Claiming the Murshidabad riots, that caused three deaths, was a "pre-planned" act, Mamata on Wednesday went personal in her attack on Shah saying the Home Minister won't get an opportunity to become Modi's political successor.

In a direct attack on the Home Minister, who is the de facto number two in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mamata said, "Amit Shah's company majorly runs the BJP's IT sector... Why are you (Amit Shah) so hurried? You will never become the Prime Minister. What will you do after Modi's regime? You will be left crawling.

"He (Amit Shah) has caused major harm to this country. I would request Modi-ji to control this man. Amit Shah, who has all agencies in his hands, is making plans. Murshidabad riots is a pre-planned communal riot."

The fresh tension comes after massive violence in the Muslim-dominated Murshidabad district, in which three people were killed, railway tracks were blocked, and there was arson and vandalism.

Over 200 people have been arrested in connection with that violence so far.

Attacked by marauding mobs, Hindus from villages fled in boats and via roads to the adjacent district of Malda as Islamic violence claimed three lives and destroyed properties.
